So today I was my last day in Landsborough for what should be 2 months! Its strange to think I won't see them all again after today for ages, as I have been there for so long. I'm really looking forward to be out on the road and being able to explore though. A couple days up in Noosa etc really gave me an appetite for more.
This morning I woke up when Mark was in the kitchen again, so got up and chatted to him over breakfast, then said goodbyes to him when he went off to work. Later I gave Diggor a lift to school, as Fenella went off to the dentist with Cecily to get her braces off.
When I got back I put my stuff back in the car which I had taken out, and was all packed up and ready to leave a bit later on. I'm gutted I Havnt been able to Skype home before I go, but Fenella has been doing everything she could to get the Internet working, and it was still down when I left today. 'Telstra' who are the monopolising Internet supplier are absolutely crap, and their customer service is shocking.
I decided before I go off galavanting for 2 months I really should have a shave. I had about a 2 month beard and it was just getting ridiculous, not to mention pretty awful looking. After comments from 'mum' and Cecily about it being Ginger and 'looking like pubes' (Fenella!) it had to go. But I won't shave on the road, so I'll have another one similar by the time I'm back..
When Fenella got home we had some lunch and chatted a bit. She said I was welcome to come back whenever I am ready for as long as I like, and that if I'm really unable to sell the car before going to Indo, they might be able to help me out there too. It really goes to show how lucky I was to be able to live with them, literally could not have been better! We'll have a lot to live up to when it's Cecily going travelling if she comes to England!
Anyway, I left about 12:30ish, and went and filled up the car and bought a book at the 2nd hand shop over the road, as I will have a lot of free time going to bed at 7pm when it gets dark! Then it was off to start the road trip, 1st stop Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast. The surf forecast for the next week is far from brilliant, but at least the Goldy and the further south I go the better it should be.
I arrived at 'Broadbeach', at the southern end of the centre if Surfers, after about 2 hours drive, and parked up right next to the beach. Spot on! I have had 2 brief visits here, once for the boat party weekend, and the other on just passing through on the bus with the guys going up to Mooloolaba, but this time I will actually be able to see it for real a bit. Although I wont go out clubbing as its Monday night, it would suck by yourself and I don't have the money ha!
I spent the afternoon walking what must have been 6/7km all up, down Broadbeach, which runs all the way down the front of the Sky Scrapers. From the beach it kinda' reminded me of the pictures I have seen of the beaches in Ibiza but a little nicer to be honest, with high rises coming almost down to the sand at the top of the beach. It was pretty cool to see, but I can't see why I would want to spend much time here, unless with a bunch of mates to go out..
As far as the surf went the standard afternoon sea breeze was ruining what appeared to be 1-2ft of swell. However by the evening when I was having something to eat and looking over the beach the wind had dropped, and I'm half hopeful I might get a wave first thing in the morning.
I also saw Whales AGAIN today! I had been told at this time of year they are going south having spent the winter up here, and they come pretty close to land. Despite this I didn't expect to see them about 400m off the beach just playing around. Today it looked like 2 smaller ones messing about like they were suspended upside down in the water, with just their tails out thrashing around. And to think people pay mega money to go whale watching!
By 6:30pm it was pretty much dark, so I moved the car a couple of blocks down to a small car park where I sorted the car out, and sat writing this blog. I figured I shouldnt just sleep here as its too obvious for the coppers to check the car parks, so I will move onto the street behind and park next to the curb somewhere. Fingers crossed I no one will come knocking on the window!
