Day 17 fruit picking -
Just the normal routine of up at 6am and work at 7 again today. However at work I was shown how to drive the ancient 'UTE' (which I need to get a photo of!) to take the strawberries from the patch to the packing shed. I dont know how old the thing is, but it has a column shift manual gear box, and the entire inside has falled apart, i would guess atleast 40 years old..
It sounds pretty dull, but it's great - by having that job as well a picking, the day is broken up and I'm not just sat in a trolly all day.
I also set up a practical joke for the women in the packing shed, who are always moaning at us for something insignificant - I found a dead and decomposed rat in a strawberry tray which hadn't been used since last season. I then put some unusable strawberries into the tray with the rat and sent it into the packing shed for the women to find! That should wind them up for a while..
After work I came home and got my surfing kit and went down to Dicky's beach. I was super excited to get out again, but really the surf was crap. It was probably 2ft but just really choppy and closing out all the time. Plus it was so crowded with kids about 13-16 years old (all of which were miles better than me, pulling airs etc) I barely got any decent waves. I don't think I have had a really good surf at Dicky's, but at the moment it seems to be one of the few places worth going..
I came home once it got dark as usual, helped out with dinner a bit and had a shower. Everyone was really tired again and were all in bed by 10pm.
