So today was my first day back into paid work since I left Renishaw, about 4 months ago!
I got up at 6am to have breakfast etc and get myself ready for work. Mark then dropped me of at 'Greg Harvey's Strawberry Farm' in Glasshouse mountains at 7am, on his way to work.
When I got there the boss, Greg, showed me the ropes. as expected it wasnt all that difficult - I was given my picking bike thing, shown how to use it in the fields between the crop and shown which fruits I should be picking.
By 7:30am I was up to speed with everything and left to my own devices, picking strawberries in the fields with the 5 other people. I was by far the youngest at 19, with all the others being 45+. There is one guy who must be pushing 65-70 but my god can he pick fruit quickly! Anyway, they were all nice enough and we get on fine.
There is a break at 9am for 15 mins, which all the others use to smoke but I used to eat. Then you work through again till 12, where you have 30 mins. Then you work through again from 12:30pm to 3pm.
The work isnt as bad as people made out, although it was only my first day.. Your lower back aches a little from bending over and your bum hurts for sitting/shuffling in your seat for 7.5 hours a day, but other than that no problems! It was cool until lunch as my buggy sheltered me from the sun, but in the afternoon I was in the sun which was pretty warm.
When I finished at 3pm Fenella picked me up as part of her round of getting Digs from school. It's still very warm and sunny at that time, so when I have the car from Thursday I will have time to get a post-work surf in before dark, how sweet is that?!
Anyway we got back home and sorted some of the stuff we will need for the weeks camping holiday next week.
In the evening we just had dinner and watched a TV series Fenella and Cecsily are into, then went to bed. I spent a got 45 minutes writing emails to David and updating all my blog.
