Day 51 Fruit Picking -
I had a very different day at work today - we had picked so much fruit on Monday and Tuesday the packing shed had a huge backlog of unpacked fruit. As a result, for the first time since I worked there, Greg put me in the shed for the day. I was mainly just putting punets of packed fruit into the shipping boxes and some other jobs he normally does, as he was out picking pineapples all day. I was also taught how to pack the fruit into the plastic punets, which as it turns out is quite a skill, so that was great. Now no matter what is going on, I can still work as I have done just about every job! The bad news is though that the price of strawberries is dropping through the floor, so the season may finish soon..
By the end of the day despite me packing rather than picking (effectively having twice the impact), there was more of a fruit backlog at the end of the day than at the start..unbelievable! We spent all but the last hour and a half packing the fruit picked yesterday.
Anyway, I got home from work about 4ish as usual, then as I normally do, just dossed about and had a shower before dinner. Coming home just that half an hour/45 minutes later means I can't really go to the coast to surf or fish, as it's just dark too early. It's a bit of a shame really, but then again I would rather be working and earning the money anyway, to enjoy the months I travel more.
Fenella also bumped into one of their friends this evening, who is a second hand car sales man. She explained my situation, and apparently he has something that could be perfect for me (an estate around about $2K). Hopefully I will speak to him on the phone tomorrow and arrange a time to go and have a look!
