Day 64 Fruit Picking -
Back out picking in the patch again today, but it seemed to be pretty slow progress. It's amazing how much 1 person leaving makes a difference to how much you cover in 1 day, let alone a week. Plus it was another hot day, 27+ by about 11am..
Greg has knocked all of the 'festival' strawberries on the head now - we will finish the Camerosa tomorrow, then pick them Monday/Tuesday next week, and that will be the end of my strawberry farm work!! The price of the fruit has fallen further, so despite there being loads of good fruit about, it's not economical to pick it...a huge waste really.
Most eventful thing of the day, although I didnt get to see unfortunately, was when Greg stumbled across an 8ft+ snake in the Pineapples today! Not a life threatening on, but still nuts!
I'm not sure what I am going to do when it all finishes - all depends on how much money I have managed to save up I suppose. If its not enough, I will try and pick Pineapples or (preferably if there is the opportunity) work on the prawn boat for a couple of weeks, look after the house while the family are on holiday, then go road trip'in.
Alternatively (if I have enough money) I could go and do the stuff I wana do North of here, stop and do the weeks house sitting, then carry on down the coast. I think the most likely senario is that I will need to do a few more weeks work though..
Anyway, we finished at 2pm as the fruit was to soft to pick and pack properly due to the heat. When I got home I grabbed my surfing stuff and went down to Caloundra.
First I went to 'Bunnings' the hardware store, to get a few bits and pieces to modify my fishing spear.
Secondly I dropped in at the surf shop where I am trying to sell my board, to see if there has been any interest. Unfortunately much has come of it yet, but school holidays are coming up and I have got it on advertised on Guntree now to so fingers crossed!
I then went down and surfed at Currimundi lake for a couple of hours before dark. It was a little limply, but the biggest surf I have been in since that weekend at Moffat, which must have been a month ago now! It was good fun, but I just can't wait to get and use my new board!
Coincidently I also bumped into the guy I met down there a couple of weeks ago, Troy. It was a bit strange but really cool to catch up with him whilst out in the surf, talking out my road trip plans etc..
When I got home I didn't really do anything. Just dossed a lot before and after dinner, then went to bed about half 9 absolutely knakered. It will be good actually have a 2 day weekend this weekend to see if I can catch up a little on my sleep so I'm not so tied all the time again!
