Today was the big day...trial run! After spending the morning at home, I left on a trail run trip in the car.
I woke up when Mark was getting ready for work, about 6:30am, and there was meant to be some small clean surf in Caloundra, so I quickly had some breakfast and went off for a surf.
It was extremely windy, but it was westerly (so offshore) so it wasn't too damaging to the surf. As predicted it was only about 1ft max, but there were still a few fun little ones breaking well, so it was good to be out. It was the first time in I can't remember how long I have been cold in/after the surf though! The temp. had dropped hugely, and was only 14 degrees this morning about 8am when before it had been 20+. That combined with the wind made it feel more like 5 degrees, it reminded me off getting changed in Wales in the windy car park afterwards...just sunny.
After the surf I went to Macca's again to use the free Wifi so I could communicate with home, but even their Internet was dodgy so I didn't manage to message anyone. I was home again by about 10am, having filled up my gas bottle on the way home.
When I got back Fenella had been out and bought a new Wifi Router...but was still having the same Internet problems. No wonder she on the verge of going insane.
I spent an hour or so just packing up all my stuff into my suitcase, and remaining stuff into my car. Putting everything you own into a car definitely makes you realise how much stuff you have aquired that's for sure!
By 12 I was ready to go, and I couldn't tell who was more excited; me or Fenella! She was taking photos as I left etc. It was strange saying thankyous and goodbyes when I will be back in a couple of days, but it's the first time I have been away from the house that long since I arrived...mental!
It took about 45 minutes to get to Noosa and park in the national park car park on the headlands, but I knew my way around as I have been there 3/4 times before now.
Having parked up I spent the arvo just walking around and seeing as much as possible. I did a short trail through the rainforest area which I hadn't done before which was really good, then up to the 'Boiling Pot' lookout as its got such great views (but I have done that before) and then just walked down the road back into the town and along the main town beach and back to the car.
By then it was 5pm, so I went to the little eating area and cooked pasta and a nearly-but-not-spaghetti sauce. It was weird getting the pots and pans etc out the car, but the little gas cooker worked like a dream so that was brilliant!
By 6pm I had eaten and cleaned up, so it was off to find somewhere to stay. The car park there is patrolled so people don't sleep there, so I had to go off elsewhere. Instead I went round the headland to 'Sunshine Beach' about 5 minutes away. I found a nice quite little beach car park at the end of what appeared to be a pretty wealthy housing area, so im hoping it is out the way enough that I don't get asked to move on..
It took about 15-20 minutes of faffing and organising to get all my stuff rearranged in the car so I could sleep, but once I had done that it was great. Cosy to say the least, but only one way to find out how good'a sleep I manage..
It'll be really cool to wake up and walk over a sand dune to check the surf in the morning though!
