It turned out that the little car park I stayed in last night is pretty popular with the traveller type! I woke up this morning to find about 2 vans, and 2 other wagons that people had slept in last night, parked up too.
I had a pretty average nights sleep, waking up a few times on and off, but generally for the back of a car I can't complai. It is pretty cramped with the surfboard against the roof though, especially as I move about so much in my sleep, but I'll get used to it.
I woke up about 5am, as the sun came up. There were already 3 blokes checking the surf by the time I had rolled out the back of the car.
Unfortunately it was really, really flat. I'll be surprised if I get a surf in today.
Instead I took some photos on the beach, and walked up to the headland to the north to look at the coastal path board. There is a walk over the headland to the next bay over called Alexandria Bay, which is the one I walked to with the family when we went to Noosa. However you come out at the opposite end of the beach, so I decided to go and explore there after some breakfast.
The walk over the headland was really picturesque, with numerous little bays and rocky outcrops. It's only took about 20-30 minutes from the car to Alexandria Bay, but I would have been worth a 2 hour walk, the beach is just unbelievably beautiful. When I arrived there was only 1 other person walking on the beach, and 2 guys out in the tiny surf.
I put my towel and stuff down and went for a swim etc, then led with my eyes closed on towel drying off in the sun. When I opened my eyes again there was a couple in their 60/70's sat about 20 feet from me, who were both butt naked. Not thinking much of it I just faced the other way...but naked old people just kept popping up all over the place! Unlike most people who go swimming or lay in the sun, these feel the urge to stand with just their ankle covered in the water, hands on hips and stand for the beach to see their behinds and every lucky person in the sea to see the rest!
I have nothing against nudists, but in the end I got all my stuff and moved down to right at the end of the beach by the rocks to save my eyesight from perminant damage.
Later on I was watching a family surfing, when to my amazement yet another naked bloke appeared out the corner of my eye. He walked straight up in front of me, put his hands on his hips and struck up a conversation. At first I couldn't quite belive my bad luck, then I realised how blessed I was to be wearing sunglasses which don't allow people to see where my eyes...so he couldn't tell my eyes were shut so not to get a direct view of his crotch.
After probably one of the most strange conversations I have ever had, he wandered off...hands behind his head?!?
Having had breakfast so early, I was starving by 11:30am, so made the walk back to the car and had some lunch.
On the way back I had noticed that there was a marginally surfable wave breaking next to the headland of Sunshine Beach, so after lunch I went out to attempt a surf. As I knew I wouldn't be out long I just went in boardies and a rashie, which was really nice, and the 1st time since not long after arriving at Spot X.
It turned out the surf was even worse than I looked, so I stayed in for about half an hour, before going back and getting showered and changed.
Fenella had told me about a tiny town on a nice lake about 40 minute north of Noosa called 'Boreen Point' up in the Everglades, so I decied I would go up and spend the afternoon and night up there.
It was nice when I got here, but very very windy, so found a small sheltered beach like area on the bank, and spent an hour or so fishing.
As the sun started to go down I cooked some dinner, then found a little car park area to spend the night.
I really like being able to just pull over where ever and sleep, it quite liberating. However the coffin like space I have to manoeuvre in the back to make/sleep in as bed is less so..
