As the last 2 days both revolved around the camping trip, I'm covering both in one blog as its so much easier.
I got up early Saturday morning so that I could Skype home, for the first time in nearly 2 months. It was so nice to see and speak to the family again, and this time there was the added excitement of planning Mum and Dads trip to Bali! They all seemed happy and well which is great, but they did look very pale.
While I was talking to them the Gaunt family appeared too, so that was a funny surprise to see them.
Having finished on Skype everyone was up and about. We had breakfast and packed up the last of the camping kit, then left for the campsite in 'Kenilworth'. It was about an hour and a half drive out west, past Maleney. The scenery changes dramatically out there, turning into more rugged hills and rocky outcrops with big grassy valleys in between used for cattle grazing.
We got to 'Kenilworth Homestead' campsite about 11ish, by which time it was a stinking hot day, reaching about 36 degrees. The camping grounds were massive, flood plain style fields with the Creek flowing nearly all the way round the outside. We found the other familes who were already there, and set up our camp alongside theirs. In total there mush have been about 4/5 familes and about 25 people, most of which were kids Cecily's age.
Having set up the camp and had some lunch everyone went down to the Creek to go swimming and cool off. It was a pretty wide river (about the same as the Avon at home) but really slow flowing, so you could just bob around and swim in the big watering hole area easily. The area looked just like the type you see on nature films in Africa where the animals go down to drink, and the crocodiles are laying in the shallow beach water ready to catch them!
It was fantastic, everyone was swimming around or floating on Lilos, while some of the kids were going around fishing from their Kyaks.
We all spent most of the rest of the afternoon down at the creek getting in and out the water to cool off. The water mush have been 30 something degrees, as when you got in it felt like a luke-warm bath! You could get in and out drying off in the wind and not feel cold what so ever, it was awesome.
I went exploring up the creek with all the kids, and we found a really good rope swing and rock to jump off. The swing was pretty sketchy but brilliant fun - I have taken some videos on my camera, but unfortunately I didn't get any of the wipeouts some of the girls did.
I had a go fishing a couple of times, but didn't have any luck. I think with all the people swimming and bombing in the water the fish were hiding elsewhere. One of the guys caught a good catfish early on the morning we arrived though.
Later on we had burgers and kabbabs for dinner, then spent the evening sat round the campfire chatting and knocking back a few beers. Most of them had been there the night before too, and had a heavy one, so it was a pretty tame evening, and everyone went to bed about 11pm.
I had a good sleep in the car and woke up feeling pretty good about 7am the next day, by which time most people were already up. We had a big fry up for breakfast which was brilliant, then headed off down to the creek again. It was only about 9:30am and it was already getting hot quickly. Later on it got easily as hot as it had been the day before.
All the kids and Mums messed around in the creek until about 12 while the Dads packed up the tents, then we all had lunch. By which time it was really hot and you had to sit in the shade to eat or you would just fry.
After lunch everyone went back to the creek for an hour or so, then people started leaving for home. We stayed with Kelly, Rich and Maddie for another hour or so, then set off too.
On the way back we stopped in Kenilworth to get icecreams and sit in the park for a bit, then we went home
When we got back we sorted out all of the kit and put it away in the garage etc, then jumped in the pool as it was still hot about 5pm.
After an hour or so everyone was kankered from just being out in the sun so much, so we helped make dinner and just sat watching the Australia V South Africa cricket test match on TV.
Sorted stuff
Again as everyone was so tired, and they had work/school the next day we all crashed and went to bed by about 9:30pm.
(Photo - the pool was to inviting to resist).
