Day 66 Fruit Picking -
Back to work again today.. I didn't sleep brilliantly last night due to my head being pretty uncomfortable with the new dreads, so getting up for work seemed like hard work.
It was incredibly foggy this morning, you could barely see where you were going when I drove to work for 7am. It also hung around for a while, and didn't really clear till about 10am or later. However once it burned off jeez did it warm up quickly! Someone said it was 34 degrees in the sun, and I can believe it, picking fruit even just in shorts and shoes was roasting.
We finished work about 2:30pm, as the heat meant the fruit bruised too easily when being picked. Also the sky was getting very dark and it was clear a storm was building.
The car's fuel was almost completely empty, so I filled it up at the normal garage I Beerwah on the way home. I thought it had been more efficient than the car I had borrowing - I had driven more miles, especially on the motorways, and it had taken longer than a week for me to fill up unlike the other car.
From empty to brimmed it was $58, so the tank is marginally bigger, but really for the miles I have done that seems like a pretty efficient use of fuel!
I got home about 3ish, and within 15 minutes really strong gusty winds had started, and there was thunder and lightening. Despite the storm we didn't really get much rain again, which really the ground needs!
I spent most the arvo finishing off curtains for the car - all I need to do now is sort the velcrow out IN the car, and they will be done...FINALLY.
My Aussie drivers licence (in the photo of which I look hilarious) and my car's REGO came today which is great. I'm all legally sound ad ready to go.
In the evening we had dinner and I had arranged to Skype some of the Spot X crew, but unfortunately for whatever reason they never appeared on line..
Tomorrow is my final 'official' day working on the farm!! The strawberry season has finished, so we will pick and pack the last of the fruit in the morning. In the arvo the customary thing to do appears to be stay at work and drink plenty of beers with everyone, so we shall see..
(Photo - the finished result. I have definitely had a few laughs from people, but I think they are great. I have been told a few times now they suit me too, which has to be good news..)
