Once again i woke up at 8am despite wanting a lay in, but on the pull side I had actually slept though the night without waking up. Like yesterday I faffed around doing not much in the morning until about 11am, when I decided to go off down to the coast and go for a surf, although with the winds forecast to be heavily cross shore and not too much swell, I wasn't expecting much.
Sure enough I got to Currimundi and it was about 3-4ft (actually bigger than expected) and howling cross shore - no one was in the sea, let alone surfing. With the wind coming from the south Moffat reef would be the only sheltered spot in the area, so I drove down there.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the reef working really, really well, at what appeared to be about 3ft (looking from the top of the cliff) and loads of people were out.
I got kitted up and ran down the hill, where I had to park as it was SUPER busy, and along the base of the cliff. Fortunately there was another guy about to paddle out so I could see where the 'jump off' spot was (as last time I did the epic paddle from the beach).
As soon as I jumped off it was apparent the surf was MUCH bigger than expected. By the time I got into the line up and a set came though it was a solid 5/6ft, with some much bigger sets.
For a while I sat off to one side to get my bearings, then got stuck in.
I surfed for about 2 hours and had an absolutely fanatic time! I got 4/5 the best waves I've had since moving up here - long peeling right handers for about 150m+. Plus as its a point/reef you just paddle round the side to get back into the line up, and don't even have to duck dive waves!
By the time I got out I was exhausted for the long paddles. I had lunch and chilled for a while, then drove down to Pelecan Waters to go fishing, like yesterday.
When I got there it was very very windy, making everything hard work. Plus the fish weren't really having any of it. I stayed or about 2 hours and only caught the one bream, but it's now in the freezer so I can't complain to much.
For dinner we had a really nice Roast Dinner, and the as usual I just had a shower and watched TV.
I went to bed about 9:30pm really tired. Back to work tomorrow.
