I woke up about 7am this morning with people getting ready for schooldespite/work, despite not getting to sleep till last last night. As I only have a couple of days left I thought it was probably a good idea to start packing up my stuff, which was strewn all over my room. I also did any bits of washing I had left to do so hopefully I won't age to do much in Bali.
Having done that I sorted out the box of stuff I wanted to home. I put all the souveneirs etc in there, my wetsuit, all the silly amount of paper work I have aquired and some clothes I didn't need. I was surpsied how much stuff I managed to cram in a relitively small box, but it was pretty heavy due to the paperwork.
I then wrote some postcards to Win, Grandma + Grampy and the Parkers to thank them for my birthday presents/money, and to give them a quick update on what I have been up to.
I then went up to the PostOffice and sent the box and postcards. It turns out the box actually weighted 7.5kg. I shipped it 'snail mail' via ship which will taken 2/3months to arrive, but it still cost me about $90!
Having got back, messed about and chatted for Mark and Fenella for a bit I had an early lunch, then spent a few hours working out where to stay for the night during my stop over in Singapore. I arrive at about 8:30am on the 13th and dont fly out again to Bali until about 3pm on the 14th, so I need somewhere to stay and leave my stuff safely while I explore a bit the day I arrive.
I soon found that, like I had been told by Fenella, Singapore is extremely expensive. While looking for hotels the cheapest I could find for ages was about $200! Eventually I found a deal where a $100 room had been reduced to 50 bucks, so I just booked that. Its about 15 mins for the airport and close to the city centre, so hopefully I will be able to see a few of the sights..
I also contacted Saskia again, who is in Bali with Georgi. Their plans have changed and they are back down in the south of the island, so I am going to meet up with them as soon as I arrive! She has booked me into the same place as them, and organised me a pick up from the airport too. From the pictures the place looks awesome, and it's only $15 a day including breakfast! It's hard to get your head around how cheap it is compared to Australia! I must admit im much more relaxed about arriving in Bali now I now exactly where I'm going and I have a pick up from the airport.
Later on I put the last of the photos of my birthday Fenella took on Dropbox, then played some Xbox and watched telly.
Fenella decided to have a 'leaving dinner' for me, which Ron and Bubbles were coming round for, which I was really looking forward to as they are great company. We were having BBQ and salads etc, so I helped Fenella with that.
I thoroughly enjoyed the evening, it was really good fun. As always Ron and Bubbles were on top form - for 69/71 year olds their enthusiasm for a laugh and a good drink is incredible! I couldn't have asked for a better evening and company.. I will definitely miss living with Mark and Fenella and meeting their friends. Speaking of which, I will try and keep in contact with Ron and Bubbles via email too when I'm home.
They left about 10:30pm, by which time we were all half cut, and as soon as we had pilled up all the stuff on the kitchen side we went to bed.
