Slept pretty badly last night, so I was pretty tired this morning. I got up about 8am, and like yesterday checked the surf and had breakie. There isn't any surf forecast for Atleast a week which is pretty annoying, so I said I would stay at home and help out today.
About 10am all of us (apart from Cecily who is pretty ill with flu) went out to work on the island in the dam. Diggor and I chopped down loads of trees with an axe, which was sweet, and bloody manly! Mark strimmed all the long grass and Fenella directed (to stop me and Diggor taking down every tree in sight)/lopped tree branches.
Once all the trees we were allowed near had been taken down, I started 'weeding' the dam via a dingy. However it was bloody hard work and slow progress in the dingy, so I will have another go when we have borrowed some waders.
Diggor and I then had a big bonfire on the island to get rid of the huge amount of trees. It took all afternoon but eventually it all burnt down to nothing. We then started on the grass, and tried to have a 'controlled burn off', but it's much harder than famers make it look. Despite some oil etc we could make it burn the grass off, resulting in many little bonfires scatter around, so we gave up. By that time the sun was going down anyway, and it was the end of another beautiful day of bright sunshine and not a cloud in the sky!
I said to Mark - if I got to do fun stuff like chopping down trees and having bonfires at home, instead of pulling weeds in flower beds, I could get used to gardening!
Once we had tidied up we came in, had showers and made some food, then just spent the evening watching the Olympics on TV.
(Photo - all photos from today on Fenellas camera, so here is the ice on the windscreen from the other morning, go prove Australia does get cold, even on the sunshine coast..)
