Day 113: 24/12/12
Christmas Eve! It doesn't feel a bit like Christmas Eve. It just feels like I'm on summer holidays all the time!
In the morning I tidied up a bit and realised I had no food to eat after Christmas so I said Id go to the supermarket and get a few bits, save me looking for stuff on Stephens' day! I was at the shop about half twelve in the day and it wasn't crazy at all! It's a supermarket on Christmas Eve- you would think it would be chaotic, but not over here! I don't think they I crazy about presents or dinners or anything the way we do!
I bought some pâté at the shop- something we always have at Christmas!
I was pottering around the room for a while then and I noticed a card and a present under the door. Kate had obviously been by and I hadn't noticed. She left me a card and some lovely scented soap! That was really thoughtful!
Shane was working today but he called over for me in the evening and we went to Mikes house. Shane had presents from Padraig, Alva and Cliona for us- I got lots of little travel toiletries! Thanks guys!!
Mike cooks the dinner for us, we went to Mass an we had a few beers! There was no great excitement about Mass either. There was an advent wreath but no crib or tree. There was an organist and a woman at a microphone to lead the congregation in singing but she didnt know the songs that well herself so everyone was all over the shop! They sang normal songs like Silent Night, Away in a Manger, Joy to the world, O Come all ye faithful..... And people still couldn't get them right! The gospel and sermon were Christmassy but apart from that you wouldn't know there was anything special about the Mass. There were only 70 people there (I counted!!). You'd get more than that from our road alone!
Anyway, we had a few drinks and a few chocolates in Mikes. Then Shell, Mam and Dad skyped and we were chatting to them for a while! I got a taxi home then and proceeded to send ye all some messages!!!
