Day 78: 19/11/12
By 7:45 I hadn't gotten a call this morning so I rang the childcare agency. They said they'd ring back as soon as they had work. Next thing at 8 I got a call to work in a school at 8:50. Luckily I was practically ready! Of course the childcare agency rang a few minutes later and Id to tell them I wasn't available after all!!
The girl in the house was just going to leave to back to the farm and she said she was passing that way so she gave me a lift! It was great as I didn't have to wait for a taxi, or pay the price of one!! She's sound, it's a pity she doesn't be around more.
It was a year 1,2 class in one of the schools I was in last week; mostly year 1's. I was told there were a few behaviour problems and they were printing off work for the day. Unfortunately there was no work so I was winging it, also they had no specialist time out of the class. One of the guys that was supposedly bold was asked to go to another classroom with year 5 kids, so I didn't see him for the day. Another guy was lying on the ground when the principal came in to see if everything was alright. Apparently he does this all the time. In his own time he got to his seat, but didnt do anything. A teacher aide came in and she put him on the computer. Eventually she just took him out of the room. There was commotion between him and another teacher at first break- lots of shouting! So they kept him somewhere for the day too! So I fared out okay, even though there were plenty of lively ones left!!
We wrote about their weekend and read it out. Then we learned the down in the jungle song, which we just happened to repeat several times during the day. They did some mats sums from the board and I managed to find some books they could do paired reading with. I played the tin whistle of course and dragged that out as well as playing a Maths and a word game! At the end of the day the two classes next door came in to pratice for a Christmas concert- 2 Christmas songs I never heard of: 3 drivers and happy Christmas to you and to you and to you.
There are just partitions between the classes but they are open all the time so you can hear everything in all the rooms. It's really hard to get kids quiet when they can hear noise for elsewhere!l
At the end of the day someone from the office rang to say that the teacher would be out the next two days aswell and asked would I take them so I did of course! At least I know where I'm going to be for the next two days! I don't know if they well send those boys back in or not. If they do it could be a nightmare, but well see!!
I spent some time this evening getting a few activities ready for tomorrow. Ill have to raid the classroom a bit too to see can I find stuff to do. I don't have too many ideas for this age group and the lack of a textbook is a balls. It would be nice if they had one for an odd subject!
Apart from that I just watched tv- Xfactor final!!
