Day 64: 5/11/12
I got a call at about five past six this morning to work in a school about half an hour away. It was year 5 and 6 so that was good! By the time I figured out where the school was I was too late to get the train there so I got a taxi. It's the more expensive option but hopefully it was a one off. I could get the train home anyway.
The class were lovely again. There were a few boys that were full of life but nothing major. They were all willing to work which is all you want! The teacher had no work left so I was winging it! Try have no books over here so you can't even just continue on! Their copies are full of photocopied sheets and things. I gave them plenty of Maths from the board to set the tone in the morning!
They had library for an hour in the morning. Here they were on computers designing a movie trailer for a book they had picked- all very high tech! They were well able to go on the computers! I got them writing a story after break. They had pe for a half hour then. There are specialised teachers for all these subjects. After second break then we were learning about Ireland. The tin whistle and Spanish lady got another go! They wanted to know the national anthem so I played it for them. They wanted to learn the words but I didn't change that! The main thing they know about Ireland in all the schools I have gone to is that there are leprechauns and Niall from One direction is Irish. They know green has something to do with it too!
I got the train back to the city. I didn't do much for the evening. I watched tv and skyped home. I was going to plan a few more things to do with classes incase of calls for a second day or calls for younger classes, but I didn't! Maybe tomorrow!
