Day 80: 21/11/12
One of the girls that was out the last two days came in today and set them all wild!! When they went to performing arts it seems she was terrible altogether but I wasn't there as I was with two geniuses that were too bold to go! The girls mother came in after school and made her apologise for misbehaving. The kids had told her when they went out. Basically she was making fart noises and out in the corridor eating when she should have been working! Also spent some time under the table, and three of the girls kept taking their socks and shoes off all day! The principal said its better when the mother doesn't know as she has some mental disorder and it helps her case to hear the children were misbehaving! So don't know what's going on there!!
I had been warned about one lad that he was bold and he's lively enough alright. But there's another lad that's worse. He's rising him the whole time. He won't do any work and thought it would be better today to run through the empty classroom next door than sit down and behave. Of course the other lad was up after him in a shot!
I forgot to say yesterday that when they have swimming the girls get changed in the classroom and the boys in the eating area further down. The classroom in between can see everything! They were all walking around stark naked! It was madness!! The teacher usually takes them for swimming today without the pe teacher. Needless to say I didn't do that!
This morning there was a granny of one of the kids in to help out. We were doing Maths- writing out number sentences given the three numbers, ie. 3+4=7 4+3=7 7-3=4 7-4=3. They took ages to settle at it. The grandmother said afterwards that it was good that I challenge them as she didnt think they were challenged at all!
In Italian there was an announcement over the intercom: 'will the teacher who just rang the office about a student escaping over the fence please ring back.' I thought it was hilarious!!! At least mine haven't escaped yet!!
During the day the principal came looking for me. She asked if I would stay on for the week but change to contract work rather than relief teaching. I said yes but I hope I don't regret it as relief teaching is better money. I don't know what the difference is though. She mentioned other relief teachers being in and chaos everywhere but that there wasn't any in my class so well done! There was a bit of chaos later in the day though!
