So this is Christmas in China. My breakfast was a Snickers bar as I was feeling hungover and had no other food in the house.I went to work at Wanhuatong where usually I have to teach from a set text book but as it was Christmas they let me plan my own lesson. I had a fun class with the kids, I'd even hand made a Christmas tree and some Christmas themed crafts and activities. I met Echo for lunch and had a big bowl of vegetable noodles- not exactly Christmas dinner! We exchanged Christmas gifts and then I went to Happy Tree Kindergarten to do a Christmas show. I was told I needed to do a speech so I quickly wrote it while I waited for my English programme to begin. The kids did really well singing the songs and when I gave my speech I got a round of applause.I was very amused to be giving a speech on Christmas day, like the Queen!
When I got home I went on Skype and spoke to my family and opened my presents. Then I went for a shower at Ruth's before heading to Lilly Coffee for dinner. We ended up eating bowls of pasta from our laps.Mohamed had got a bottle of vodka for me and Ruth, and it was Smirnoff so that was quite exciting. The mood was not very festive at the café though, everyone had partied too hard last night. My Grandparents had sent me some small Christmas Puddings so I heated them up and shared them with the others to try and make things feel a bit more Christmassy.
It was my first Christmas abroad and I have never worked Christmas day in my life either. It was an interesting experience, but I hope that next year I will be spending it with my family.I missed having them around me, enjoying a proper Christmas dinner, playing silly games and exchanging gifts.
