Today was National Day, the anniversary of when the People's Republic of China was founded by Mao Zedong on 1st October 1949. As I hadn't got home until past 6am I slept in quite late. When I woke up I took the lid off the many-legged bug and pushed him down the drain with my mop.I went to meet Ruth near her apartment and we went for dinner, then back to her apartment to watch a movie.Just as the film had started there was a knock at the door, it was Binging. We turned off the movie and watched TV with her instead. There was something on TV about Japan, and she started to say how Chinese people and Japanese people don't like each other.I asked her if it is the TV, her family or her school who tell her bad things about Japan. She said it was all three.I told her she doesn't have to believe everything she hears on TV because the government decide what people are told and it may not always be the full story or the complete truth. She went completely still and quiet and said she didn't want to talk about it.Oops!I forget where I am sometimes.
In other news, I gathered from the TV that a space rocket had been successfully launched from China today. On researching this later, I found it was the Chang'e 2 spacecraft, which is unmanned. Its purpose is to photograph the moon and help China prepare for a future manned landing on the moon, but as with everything related to the Chinese government there is some mystery about the full extent of its purpose!

Ashley Sutton A slur about he Chinese government on National Day of all days! The other day a girl on a bus asked me what I thought of Japan, I told her I'd never been so couldn't really say. She went on to tell me how Japan lies to its students about history. I got some serious glares from everyone in earshot when I told her that China does that too. I quickly changed the subject.
