I went to Ruth's apartment to do some clothes washing. We were both supposed to have the whole day off, but when I arrived she said she had received a text saying she should be in school. She invited me to go and watch her Business English class. We went to the college across the road from her apartment and I sat in the corner. The class was so different to my kindergarten classes. The students are teenagers who already have quite a good grasp of English and they are able to understand the tasks she sets. The Business English aspect was interesting to me from my business background, more interesting than singing "I am stretching very tall, now I'm very small. Tall.Small.Now I'm a tiny ball" with my kids, I'm afraid sometimes my brain is going to melt!
Ruth got her class to work in pairs to each discuss a different product and then try to sell its good points at the front of the class. I was pretty impressed with some of their answers, I'm sure some of them were more creative than the classes I have attended as a business student myself in the past. They kept trying to whisper to me during the class to ask me questions but I told them to listen to Ruth and wait until the end.At the end of the class I was asked all sorts of questions.Where am I from? How long have I been in China? What do I teach? Where do I teach?I told them I teach English kindergarten but my major (sorry English people it hurts me to use this word, but I have to use the language/terminology which they understand) was Business and Management. They told me they want me to feel welcome in their class any time when I am free. Two of the girls walked up to me linking arms together and they told me my eyes are big and I am beautiful. It is so strange to be told this constantly I don't think I will ever feel comfortable with it.
