Miss Wang, Jen and I went for breakfast at the Genius Baby Kindergarten. We sat in one of the classrooms with children running around us while we ate. Then we went to the Head teachers office to try to find out what we are supposed to be doing and where and when we start teaching.Nothing was really made any clearer.
We started to prepare for our lessons tomorrow.I had a phone call from Echo, she told me she will be assisting me with tomorrow's 'public show' which was a relief as her English is really good.
Miss Wang and Jen got home and they had already eaten super at the kindergarten.Miss Wang asked if I had eaten and when I said no she took me back to the kindergarten for some food. When we were eating dinner I told her I like the area she lives (she calls it a yard) and that the people are friendly and say hello, especially the security guards at the gate.As we were out I asked her if there is anywhere like an internet café in the area and she started to walk me out of the yard through the security gate. The guards on both sides did they're usual "Hello pleased to meet you" and Miss Wang got the giggles and said "I see, you are right!" We crossed the busy road outside and she showed me the computer zone is directly opposite where we are staying.
On the way back she grabbed my arm to guide me across the road as it had got much busier.I told her the roads in China are very different because if someone steps on a zebra crossing at home, the car is supposed to stop, not the person. She thought this was very funny. As we were walking I went through some of the Mandarin I have picked up so far, I know how to say hello, thank you, yes, no, don't want, goodbye. Not quite the ingredients for a meaningful conversation, but it's a start!
I was fed up of feeling dusty so I decided to brave having a "shower" and asked her to boil some water for me.She uses an old fashioned stainless steel kettle on the gas burner.I took it into the room with the toilet along with a large bowl of cold water, and a small bowl for mixing and pouring the water. It felt good to properly wash my hair.Even shaving my legs felt like a treat, although I forgot about my mosquito bites on my legs and I cut them by mistake and they started bleeding.
We spent the rest of the evening watching the Chinese 'take me out'.I've never even watched it at home (as I had no TV) but it seems I am going to have to rely on crap TV for entertainment here as there is very little to do and I forgot to bring any books to read.
