As I was leaving the yard, a car was also driving out of the gate. There were two men in the car and the passenger leaned out of the window and said something to me in Chinese and pointed in the direction of the bus stop I was walking to and gestured for me to come over to the car.I figured he was probably just offering me a lift.It was probably perfectly safe, as they obviously lived in the same yard as me and we were right in front of the guards. However, I shook my head 'no' as I did not feel comfortable accepting.I think they thought I didn't understand, as the passenger started pointing to the back of the car and reaching around to the door handle. This was getting awkward! So I walked quicker towards the bus stop, said "Zàijiàn" and waved, smiling.I didn't want to seem rude, but I wouldn't have got into a car in the same situation in England so I wasn't going to here. Also, how could I even have told them where the school is!
I changed my flight home again, this time right up until the final day of my visa, so I can't change it again now (which is good because every time I change it costs me money).I'll be flying home on 5th February so I can see Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) on the 3rd February. It is going to be so cold and so busy but I've seen about as much as there is to see in Liaocheng now and I'm looking forward to exploring more of China before I leave. My friend Laurie should be joining me for the three weeks travelling… that is if he can find his way to Liaocheng!
