I went into school and was sat in the classroom for a while waiting to start teaching when I noticed I had received a text.It was from Echo saying I needn't go into school but she didn't know why.I replied and said I was already there and nobody had told me to go home.I was quite confused. There was a nurse in one of the outer buildings giving the kids vaccinations, so I assumed they had maybe wanted me not to come in so the children didn't miss the lessons while they were with the nurse.I gave one class all morning which seemed to go ok but I usually give two or three.I asked Zhen Yang if I should come back after lunch. She didn't know so she said she would call me.
Feeling kind of worried about what was maybe going on at school, I felt the urge to cook (something, anything, it just relieves the stress) So on the way home I went to the supermarket and bought some bits and pieces for the kitchen, including a saucepan, bowl, spoon, chopsticks, vegetable peeler, chopping board etc.etc.You know the kind of stuff I mean.I also bought some oil, soy sauce, vinegar, dry noodles, vegetables and eggs.Everything has to be weighed, even the eggs.I didn't realise this when I put them in my basket (they are stacked in huge crates and you pick them individually. It's not like picking up an egg box full of relatively clean eggs at home; these eggs are still covered in poop and feathers! Not very appetising idea, but I gotta get protein from somewhere) and the shop assistant came chasing after me with a plastic bag to put the eggs in to be weighed and labelled with the price.
I cooked myself some tomato fries the egg.It was actually quite nice although it didn't taste exactly like the Chinese people serve it; I think something is missing, but what?As I settled down to have an afternoon nap I received a message from a number I didn't recognise "you direct and introduced you come that person relates!" and after a few message backwards and forwards I determined that it was Zhen Yang and that she was referring to Miss Shi.When I asked if I should come back to school to teach in the afternoon she said "no! Afternoon. You find her! Go to her work! Or telephone to her!" but then I had a message from Jen saying Miss Shi was at the Baby Genius school so I assumed maybe she was on her way to see me.There seemed little point in calling her as we can't understand each other.I sent a text to Echo asking if she could speak to Miss Shi for me and find out what was going on but she didn't reply.
In the evening I was still feeling very stressed and Jen was out so I invited Ruth over, told her to bring a bowl as I had decided to cook something else-I find it very calming to chop and stir.I tried not to worry too much about what was going on at the school and decided I would go in tomorrow morning as though everything was normal and just hope it was another Chinese miscommunication.I served fried eggplant with noodles and considering it was only my second cooking attempt in China it wasn't too bad.Unfortunately Ruth had forgotten a bowl so ended up eating out of the pan…I'm not used to cooking with stainless steel pans (Non-stick is much better in my opinion) accidentally I had burned some of the noodles to the bottom of the pan but she still said it tasted ok.
