When I got to the street of the Flower Garden School it had been completely dug up!I had to climb over a mound of mud to get into the school grounds. The roadworks in china are frightening. The workers just leave gaping holes in the road with no warning sign or safety barrier. You can look down into the hole and see all the pipes, tubes and cables (and smell the sewers!).It is quite fascinating. What is also funny is that within a few days if you walk down the same street again, you would not even know that the whole thing had been completely open just a few days before.
In one of my classes, a little girl walked up to me talking in Chinese.A lot of them do this and I feel quite bad that I don't understand but I try to smile and hope they don't notice. If it seems urgent I'll turn them around and point them at one of the Chinese teachers to help them instead.Well this little girl was also holding out her hand so I looked down to see what she was trying to give me.It was a giant bogey!Seriously, it was so huge a teenage boy would have been proud to have called it their own!Well this was one of those instances where I took the child by the shoulders turned her around, and pointed her at one of the Chinese teachers. The teacher did not look very happy either, but I'm not paid to dispose of giant bogeys thank you very much!
I went to the supermarket and bought lots of fresh ingredients to make a vegetable curry. It took me a lot longer to make than I expected as my kitchen has only the basic equipment which I have bought, so it was only just ready when Ruth arrived. We had several helpings each as it was such a nice change to be eating something which didn't taste Chinese.I'd used fresh garlic, chilli's and ginger and I must agree with my old flatmate Kal, he would always insist the on the fresh stuff and I can see now this does make a big difference and it tastes so much better than the powdered stuff. We watched a movie while eating some Cadbury's chocolate fingers which my Granny had sent me.Mmmmm real chocolate... Thank you Granny!!!
