I taught classes in the morning and took some clothes in to wash at Genius Baby.I told Miss Wang I was planning to visit Jinan at the weekend so I would need my passport back. She said I could come and pick it up on Saturday morning. We've all been without passport since we arrived in China as they were sent off from Beijing for the visa extension and then sent to Miss Shi and never handed back! I got a bus into town to do some shopping. When I had finished I went back to the kindergarten to pick up my clothes washing, and Jen was there with her rucksack. They had given her half an hour notice that she had to go and get the train to Beijing. We said goodbye and then she was gone.
I went back to the flat and moved some furniture around and did some cleaning, and then Echo called me.She had good news.Ruth's mobile phone had been found! She had continued to try calling the phone and eventually the driver picked up and she arranged to get it back.I emailed Ruth to tell her, but I wasn't sure if she would get it or not.I did my afternoon classes and then got the bus to meet Echo near to her school.I was waiting ages because she was working at a different school and had to get through the traffic on her electric bike. When she arrived she gave me the phone, and then offered me a ride on her bike, again, and I said no thank you, again.I think she is a little offended but I told her it is nothing to do with her driving. I just don't like to go on any vehicle which has less than 4 wheels, maybe 3 wheels at a push, but certainly not 2.She insisted on waiting with me at the bus stop and then when the bus arrived she went home
As I was on the bus back to my apartment, Miss Wang called me to tell me that I would have to work on Sunday so I wouldn't be able to take a trip to Jinan.I would still be able to pick up my passport in the morning though (apparently). Then she called me again to say someone was waiting for me at the kindergarten, she put them on the phone, it was Ruth.I told her I had the phone and I would be there to meet her in a few minutes. When I got there we went to my flat so I could have a quick horribly cold shower and get ready to go out.We went to Lilly Coffee for food.Mohamed said another foreigner was new in town, he was an American lecturer called Alex.I sent him a text inviting him to meet us for dinner tomorrow but he said he had to check his schedule. Then me and Ruth decided to explore the area and see if we could find anywhere else to drink.
We walked for a while and ended up at Partyland, which looks like a nightclub from the outside but inside it is lots and lots of KTV rooms. They sold beer so we decided to book a room for 2 hours and just watch the music videos (too sober to sing) and drink beer… the KTV staff kept coming in the room and miming on the microphone to show us what we should be doing, thinking we didn't understand the concept of karaoke. The Chinese people don't go to karaoke drunk, they quite happily sing sober.By the time we were drunk enough to sing, we only did two or three songs and then the time ran out so we went home.I could not get to sleep as there was some demolition/building (sometimes it's impossible to tell which it is in this country) going on through the early hours of the morning.
