The Wanhuatong Kindergarten liked the lessons I had given on Saturday so Sherry asked me to come in during the week as well.Today I had my usual lessons at Flower Garden, and then had to fit in an hour at Wanhuatong in my lunch break.Sherry is the only English speaking teacher at the school and she comes to all my classes and assists. She is brilliant, much better than any of the assistants at the other schools. She listens as I give the children my instructions in English and then she repeats them in Chinese. If I can't explain the meaning of a word with actions or pictures, she'll tell them the meaning in Chinese
Here are some things I've had to teach the children which really annoy me: 'letter Z(ee)' instead of 'letter Z(ed)', 'Fall' instead of 'Autumn' and 'Zeebra' instead of 'Zebra'.Also, having to teach the song 'London Bridge is Falling Down' but actually being provided with a flashcard of Tower Bridge. There are some things which I do like; discovering different animal noises instead of a duck saying 'quack quack ' Chinese children make the duck sound 'gua gua'.Also whenever they see me they get excited and yell 'Wàijí liàoshī ' which means foreign teacher.Wàijí is a basically nicer way of saying foreigner than Laowai.
