At the Flower Garden, one of the songs I had to teach was called 7 Cats. After I'd drilled all the vocabulary and we'd watched the video, I got seven kids to line up at the front of the class and sing the song.I stood behind them to prompt them and then at the end, I said "MEOW" really loudly and they all ran back to their seats giggling and screaming.I thought this was really funny so I did it with a few more groups of seven kids until the class was finished.By the end of the lesson, the assistant did not look too happy about all the screaming!
I emailed my agency to complain about living with the Chinese flatmate (based on the fact that she keeps the windows wide open, toilet and hygiene issues, and them trying to get into my room). However the response stated that "We could certainly help with translating and things but unfortunately there is nothing really we can do".So I've decided I'm just going to have to make the best of it, and it may be an interesting cultural experience living with a Chinese person.
I felt a little bad about sending the email because when she came home she brought me lots of fresh apples!I used the online translator to communicate with her again. From what I could gather, she is 20 years old.Her hometown is Liaocheng and she has just graduated. Her brother lives in a nearby apartment and so she goes there for dinner. Her mother also lives in Liaocheng but further away.I told her that tomorrow is my birthday and that I would be coming home late, and that she shouldn't worry because it would not happen very often.I felt I should warn her because every door in the apartment has a glass panel above, so as soon as one light is turned on, the rest of the rooms are lit up too.She managed to say in English "Happy Birthday" which I thought was sweet.
