When I got to Baby Genius the breakfast was noodles.I'm actually quite getting used to these strange breakfasts.I've shown the chef my card saying I'm veggie and he dishes out my food separately so although it may not be my first choice of morning food, at least I know it's meat-free!Miss Wang was back at school and she gave me my timetable.Monday and Wednesday I will be at Baby Genius all day. Tuesday and Thursday I will be at Flower Garden all day.Friday I will spend the morning at Baby Genius and the afternoon at Flower Garden.I'd never been to Flower Garden so Miss Wang took me on the bus.It is not as nice at Baby Genius, down a back street which is full of rotten fruit and animal excrement, the school building is old and smells of wee, but the staff are lovely and it's still nicer than Longshang was.
Jen still had not had confirmation of when she would be leaving Liaocheng but it was very likely it was her last night in town. Ruth came to meet us near our apartment and we walked down the road to find somewhere to eat.We found a restaurant where the chefs were working outside in the doorway. At first I thought the guy was making dough for bread, he was twisting it and rolling it and twisting it, and then suddenly it became noodles! We decided to eat there as the food was obviously fresh; I've never seen noodles being made by hand before, it was pretty cool.I showed them my veggie card and they showed me two options on the wall inside, I picked the one which looked like a noodle dish and then sat down at the tables outside. While we were waiting we thought it would be nice to have some tea, there was a teapot on the table but it was cold so we tried gesturing to them to refill the teapot, and the three of us wanted a glass. They brought us three glasses but nobody came to refill the pot.Jen decided to give it a go anyway and poured some out.Luckily she sniffed it before she tasted it, because it was vinegar!Haha they must have thought we were completely mad to be asking for glasses for the vinegar in the teapot. When the food came it was absolutely lovely, having fresh noodles makes such a difference and it was possibly one of the nicest things I've eaten in Liaocheng.
We bought some beer at the supermarket then got a taxi back to Ruth's apartment. As we were climbing the stairs she couldn't find her phone so I called it but we couldn't hear it ring. She ran after the taxi but it was too late he had gone.We went into the apartment and I called Echo for help.I asked her if she could call the taxi depot and leave her contact details in case the phone was handed in.I also asked her to keep calling the phone in case the driver picked up and she could speak to him in Chinese. She asked us what the taxi number was and I said we had no idea. She said that without knowing which taxi it was we will probably never get the phone back.I asked her to please keep trying anyway. She called the depot and then called me back to say they had told her the same thing- we'd probably not see the phone again because we couldn't identify the taxi.We had a few beers with Ruth and Debbie, and then me and Jen walked home.
