Today kicked off by preparing our original casts to make another positive form that we'd be sculpting our final special effects ideas onto, all under the watchful eye of our new tutor, Bruce Spaulding Fuller (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0298186/).* There's a lot of processes involved, and it's very important to follow every step perfectly. For instance, make sure you use enough alginate to cover the face completely, working it into each crevice, use plenty of plaster bandage to make sure it keeps its shape, and ensure the first layer of ultra cal 30 is thick enough so that you're not left with air bubbles when you reveal the mould. These are all things I've learnt from today's processes. The mould is fine to work with as I managed to save it at each step before going any further, but now I know to be extra careful when doing this in future. I'll have to practice when I get home.
*Seriously, check him out to see what he's worked on...
