We had our bald cap application finals today, so I was up bright and early so I had plenty of time to set up my station before the practical started. I was with Crystal today, and we eventually came to a decision over who went first. It was me.
I'd chosen to use my rubber cap as it seemed I had less stress with it than with the plastic cap appliance I screwed up on Wednesday. Most of the rest of the class had chosen to go with a pre-made plastic cap, which in hindsight, I probably should have done, just because everyone's application looked so much easier. I'd like the chance to practice a bit more at home, but there's not many other residents who'd take me up on it I don't think. I managed an OK appliance, although for some reason the back wouldn't stick down properly again, like yesterday, but I did my best to cover it up a bit. Plus, the hair was being a pain in the arse and kept wanting to pop out from underneath the cap. After the 2 and a half hours was up, I had something I wasn't entirely happy with, but it wasn't a completely disastrous attempt. And also, it's still only my fourth ever bald cap, so maybe when I come home, I can practice on some of you.
There was a brief written exam on what we'd hopefully learnt this week, before switching over. Crystal's plastic cap on me looked amazing. Everything was blended in well, It was all stuck down properly, the texture was right, and it was generally brilliant. I'm actually considering shaving my head, but if I did, I'd save it for when I get home. And maybe not until after winter.
Some of us later ventured up to Universal Studios for the Hallowe'en thing they're doing every weekend until the end of October. i was actually pretty impressed with it. As you entered the park there were a ton of clowns running around after people with chainsaws (without the chain-blades in obviously), and provided some hilarious entertainment, especially in scaring the s*** out of Jen and Ami. At one point in the evening, three, skull-headed, chainsaw-wielding gentlemen, managed to scare Jen into running towards the nearest bush. It was rather amusing.
The park (at night) consisted mainly of several different horror movie based mazes, in which people would continually jump out and 'attack' you. The first one we did was "Rob Zombie's House of 1,000 Corpses in 3D Zombievision", which was alright, but having to wear 3D glasses whilst walking around made me quite dizzy. There was a lot of Dr. Satan, Captain Spaulding and Baby costumed actors, but I didn't really see the point in the glasses; they were just irritating. We then headed to "Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life", a pretty tongue in cheek tram/walk round some dark woods/fields, with Scream masked killers running around all over the place. This yet again was great entertainment. We checked out "Jurassic Park: In The Dark" (basically Jurassic Park: The Ride, with the lights off) which was a lot of fun, although getting wet may not have been the best idea at midnight.
I finally got my way, and suggested we all go check out "The Thing: Assimilation", which not surprisingly had the longest queue of the night. It was well worth it though in my opinion. Lots of small rooms separated by plastic dividers you couldn't see through, so as soon as you go through, someone/thing jumps out at. This actually got me a few times. I thought the whole maze was awesome. I just hope the prequel lives up to John Carpenter's masterpiece.
Before the park closed at 2, we quickly checked out "La Llorona: Villa de Almas Perdidas, as imagined by Diego Luna" (….?), which was alright, probably better than the Rob Zombie one earlier anyway. I've not got any plans for tomorrow, as pretty much all the girls from school are making up women all day at some Women's Expo at the LA Convention Center. I could have gone, but it would mean doing beauty make-up all day. Not on a Saturday. I don't think it'd be very useful for my portfolio anyway, so I don't think I'm missing out. I might pop to a couple of make-up stores in North Hollywood, and see if I can get some cheap equipment and materials (it's much cheaper here than back home). I haven't been to the cinema for a while either, so I think it's time I check something out. I've heard great things about 'Drive'.
