I'd been told yesterday that I'd be used for the demonstration today, as Nelly wanted to airbrush on the top half of my body. This meant I had to stand in front of 22 women (and Arthur) with my scrawny midget-torso on show for an hour or so. This was incredibly embarrassing. Luckily, she made me look pretty ripped… on one side of my face and torso. It was kind of zombie-like. She saved the other half for my partner, Chanel, to do this afternoon.
I went first again today, which makes it much better for the afternoon, as i can just sit there for a few hours whilst being made-up. It was much more fun than yesterday, working on shading and highlights, as well as muscle definition and lightning effects. I was quite pleased with the outcome, and luckily, I still had Nelly's work on my face and body, so I had some good reference… As did everyone else constantly looking at me to see what to do. And the people in the street looked quite bemused as to why I was half painted as a well-toned zombie-type creature.
Chanel had her turn this afternoon, and did a great job of matching Nelly's work from this morning, meaning I was now head-to-waist in body-paint. Luckily it comes off a LOT easier than regular makeup, meaning much less scrubbing for when I go hunting down houses later.
I'd had a reply from one of the guy's I'd emailed last night with regards to moving in, and asked if I'd like to go view the place, despite it being a 9 month lease.* The school had also mentioned a new international student housing place about 10 minutes walk from the school, so I went to check that out first. It was much cleaner, in a nicer environment, and was very close to the school and Metro station. It's a bit more expensive than the last place, and is very much like a halls of residence, but I'd feel much safer, which I think is key when living in a very odd-place like LA. I told the woman I'd be back in an hour or so with my stuff and the cash to move in tonight.
Vicki dropped me back at Academy House to go and quickly pack away all my stuff and took me back to the new place to move into straight away. Angie took it much better than I expected, and even gave me my deposit back. I think she understood the situation I was in. Could've been fairly awkward around the apartments for another 16 weeks. I felt a bit bad as Marlene from my class, was just moving into Academy as I was leaving. Hopefully, she'll have a much better time than I did. I had a quick chat with Greg, another resident, who told me what the misunderstanding was. Apparently, Frank didn't realise I was offering him a 'cigarette', and assumed I'd called him a 'fag'. I'll be saying cigarette from now on so as to avoid any confusion. Still, he's a drugged-up mentalist.
I moved in to Hobart House, met a few other residents from Spain and Mongolia (studying at the University down the road), showered off the remaining paint, and went out for some dinner and a beer… at the Novel next to the school. You go where you know.
Felt much better today, and feels good to be in a nicer area. There's a written and a practical exam tomorrow in airbrushing where I'll be graded in what I've learnt this week, so it's lucky I've done my homework and got my stencils ready so hopefully I've remembered everything I've been taught by Nelly.
*I did ring the guy to say I wouldn't be interested as I'd found somewhere better.
