Today kicked off the first day of facial hair appliance, and the last week of character makeup before we move on to prosthetics. I'd spoken to Hann yesterday, who's just moved into the building, and starts attending the school today with a few other students, so I met with them first thing to take them there, and made sure they got to the right place OK. How nice of me!
Louis was our instructor today, and will be for the rest of the week before our character exam on Friday. We started off by steaming our crepe wool hair to un-kink it before running it through a hackle, making sure we had the right colour hair to match our partners… Did any of that make sense at all?
The task for today was to learn mutton chops, and practice them on each other by the end of the day. There was of course a demonstration, and so as not to break tradition, I was the model. This didn't bother me in the slightest, as it'll make a change to have some decent looking facial hair. Movember is soon by the way… I promise I won't cheat. After lunch, we started work with our partners on the facial hair. Vicki was feeling under the weather and was feeling quite tired, so being the gentleman I am, I made her get up, set up her station, and apply my chops first. She wasn't pleased, but I thought they were rather dashing on me. If only I could grow real ones.
My turn was next, and as the demonstration was on me, it was difficult to work out what was going on, and in what order, but I tried my best, and Louis seemed pleased with what I'd attempted, so I was happy with that. It's extremely hard to get right though, mainly because everything sticks to everything, so there is hair everywhere.
I got back and ddi the usual of sitting in the garden and stealing the internet from someone else. After spending some time working on these blogs and carrying out more research, the few of us that were in the garden went out for food. Joon advised on a decent Korean place round the corner so took us there. I played it safe and went for the sweet and sour pork, but it was so much better than a typical Chinese restaurant in England. An overall much better flavour and not full of MSGs.
I popped to the Novel for a couple of beers and watch the Jets smash the Dolphins (that's NFl I believe), before Hann called me to ask for some assistance in the pharmacy across the road. They had supplies to get for school tomorrow and weren't sure of the best things to go for. I did the best I could with my now huge knowledge of makeup (?!) and lead them home!
