Start of a new week, means start of a new subject. This week, it's high fashion photographic make-up; the kind of thing you'd see on models faces on runways, in editorial and general fashion magazines. We were first told that in two weeks time, we'll be examined, including everything we'll have learnt on make-up, hairstyling, as well as wardrobe. We'll also need to do two make-up applications plus styling in 2 hours on a model provided by the school (as I don't know anyone else here I can use a model), each followed by photograph sessions with professional photographers in different areas around the building. This is all a bit daunting, because it's fine when you're working on someone who knows how rubbish you are, but when you've got a model in the chair for a total of 4 hours who doesn't know just how rubbish you really are until you start, it becomes a bit scary. Especially when the final exam is on my birthday, and I won't be able to think straight.
Nevertheless, I tried forgetting about it now, as we had to concentrate on the demonstration of high fashion make-up, performed by Mireille who'd come back after working on jobs for two weeks, as well as learning about some of the basics in fashion make-up, and how much you can look to get paid for doing it. This is all very well and good, but I don't think I'm going to be earning much after this, though I did still make notes… just in case…
Today seemed to fly by. After Lindsey applied her dirty 'rock' make-up to my visage (messy black eyes complete with black lip-gloss; I looked neither rock nor roll- Not Lindsey's fault at all, I just don't feel I did it justice), I had about 40 minutes to attempt mine, as she had to run off for an job interview at 4, and couldn't really go to her interview covered in bizarre make-up.
I'd done a quick sketch before lunch, and managed to do one eye, and that was about it.
We were set homework for every night this week, so I rushed back home, freshened up and went back up to Universal City Walk for some food at the Karl Strauss Brewery Bar & Restaurant, and then caught 'Warrior' at the cinema. I quite enjoyed it, and even though I'm not a fan of MMA or UFC or whatever, I found myself enthralled by Tom Hardy. He reminded me of Christian Slater in this, maybe just his accent, I'm not sure. Nick Nolte was also very good. I still don't think it's as good as 'The Fighter' though, which it resembled remarkably.
The only bad thing I can say when watching this, was some d*** in front of me CONTINUOUSLY turned to his friend to talk… Not just whisper, but full-on talk during most of the film, EXCEPT when there was some fighting going on. I'm guessing that's the clientele of people this film is aimed at maybe? He quietened down when he realised my foot was digging into the back of his chair during the last half an hour. He seemed to get rather agitated by it. Needless to say, I had the last laugh… (I told Dayve I'd use it at some point...)
He also ate popcorn really loud. This is another thing I won't tolerate at the pictures…
I'll get up early and do my sketch then… Possibly.
