The last day of learning how to do hair had come, meaning there was only one day until the finals, meaning I'd never have to style hair, or apply beauty make-up again… if I didn't want to.
In all honesty, despite dreading this section of the course and moaning about having to wear make-up a lot, it's given me good grounds to work up from. I'm much better at blending colours and figuring out face shapes and good design ideas. I've even got better at sketching, but that might just be during demonstrations. It's been stressful, mainly to the face, but I can appreciate the other type of make-up going on in this industry. Airbrushing was a lot of fun, and I've learnt a lot from the tutors and teacher's assistants here. They've all been incredibly helpful, and supportive. I think maybe because I'm the only guy doing the Master course. Not very many men do surprisingly.
Anyway, today kicked off with a written, which was very handy considering I missed Monday's class. A lot of the answers were obvious, but I just made up a few of the others. Well, it's better to put something down and possibly get it right, than do nothing and get f***-all!
There were a few more goes at perfecting different styles, (fortunately the Marcel's songs are embedded into my brain so I'll never forget them!), but I mainly focussed on getting the hair-do for the avant-garde exam right. Practice makes perfect 'n' all that. After lunch, there was a practical exam, for which I did the same thing yet again, and managed to get an 'A'. Maybe I should do hair instead…? I pretty much did this same style throughout the day just to get my time down so i'll have more time to apply the make-up. (Do I sound like I'm actually really getting into this now…?). Marcel suggested adding a couple of 'neons' (stencils) to the hair for the avant-garde look, and it looked pretty cool, so I'm going to add that in tomorrow.
We'd already handed our sketches for tomorrow in to Mireille to be critiqued, so she could let us know where we needed to change things etc... Apparently, mine was perfect, needed no critiquing, and was used as a demo to another class, so nerr!
There was a demonstration to round off the day that was being filmed. There was really no need for me to look smart today really, but I felt it anyway. I didn't bother buying any trousers though, and just wore my Cinema Makeup School T-shirt I got yesterday, with shorts (obviously).
I got to back to my box, practiced on Doris and timed how long it'd take me to do the different styles for tomorrow (I think I've got them down to a decent time), washed my hair, washed my other hair (Doris'), did some washing, and had a couple of beers.
Thanks to everyone who's wished me happy birthday so far, even though I've still got several hours 'til my birthday here, but I'm going to have a few more beers down the Novel, and have an early night… That's just how I roll.
