So after having yesterday off, I knew today was going to be tough, trying to catch up on everything the rest of the class learnt yesterday, and it doesn't help that again, girls tend to do more stuff with, and to, their hair. I haven't had my 'hair did' in years (apart from those two drunken night's round Greg's where he'd kindly given me an undercut) (oh, and the Danb'n/scissors incident at the pub where I almost got it all cut off, but got away with just a little hair and finger missing… again, alcohol induced), and I can't remember the last time I had a different style either. Possibly, when I was about 9? Fortunately, there was no cutting involved, and we had horrible looking mannequin heads to work on. Mine's got a rather large centre parting. I didn't like to say anything to 'her' in case she got offended, so I listened to what Marcel (the new tutor) was instructing us to do, and started copying everyone else. It seemed easier that way.
It was pretty rapid stuff we were doing. Having to do something, comb it out, and start the next one straight away, with a few demos in between. He quickly showed me a few things (nothing rude) on what the class did yesterday, and I pretty much winged it the rest of the day. After much f'ing and blinding (amongst other things) at 'her', I can kind of do most of the stuff now, including 45 degree/ballerina/chignon ponytails, back-combing, fishtail/bamboo/regular style braids/plaits, knotting and roping, free-hand curling, loop-curling with straighteners, and my favourite hair-do, the pompadour. I think I'm gonna use this one for Friday, as it'll best match the avant-garde sketch what I done yesterday. He seemed to think the stuff I was doing was alright, and was happy that I'd caught up with the class, although I personally thought it all looked a bit messy and, well, pants.
The homework for tonight was to take the head home, which I've now decided to call Doris (dunno why, it just suited her), and prepare her for tomorrow by adding curls and letting them set. There was not a chance in hell I was waking Doris home with me, as well as all the straighteners/curlers/dryers/pins/combs etc. that I'd had to lug in today, so I stayed behind for a bit and did it there. It also meant that a couple of the teacher's assistants that were hanging around could help me. Just imagine if I'd walked home through LA where 50% of the population are clinically mental, with a balding woman's head hanging out my rucksack… They'd get confused, so best to leave it there I think. I think we're doing period-type hairstyling tomorrow.
We had to get our sketches for Friday checked by this Thursday with Mireille, and as she was still around and I'd done mine already, I got her to check it. It's all go, so I'm ready for the exam (ish), and can spend the evening sorting out some other stuff. Mainly getting some more music for my iPod, eating dinner, and maybe popping down the Novel for a beer or two.

Mum Poor old Doris has got split ends ! Didn't Lisa have one of those heads years ago? You certainly learnt a lot of hairstyles in one day, I didn't know they all had names , but as someone whose had the same style for about 30 years that's not surprising. I think you were probably wise not taking her home in your bag last night . You could always practise on your own hair !!!!!!
Ben Haddon I'v apologised for cutting your finger off! anyways. all up to date. keep up the good work!
