It's already the end of the third week. Time is flying by. I'm hoping I'll get to squeeze everything in whilst I'm here.
To begin with, we had a twenty minute written test. It was fairly straight-forward and pretty short so it was reasonably easy, though whenever you ask someone after a test, "What did you put for number three?" (for example), it makes you wonder if you put the right answer.
The practical was to create an 'extreme' beauty makeup on our partners, based on one of the four seasons. I'd chosen Winter, and had made some leafless tree and branch stencils. I even had a sketch to reference from. I was fully prepared. Boffin. There's a couple of photos in the album, and I promise to get round to uploading the best professional photos I've got as soon as possible.
I was working with Alexandra again, and she'd designed a Summer beach theme. It didn't need to be a beauty makeup on me, because apparently, it looks rubbish on a man. I wish this had been the case for the past two weeks as well.
I decided to bring my maquette home today so I can possibly work on it in some free time at home. Also, they asked me to move it out of the way. Still no clue as to how to ship it home in one piece. I discovered my fridge was broken, so went and told Irene the problem, who said she'd try and sort something out. Went with Victor for a quick beer, whilst trying to decide what to do tonight. I'd read there were some shows going on out Hollywood way, so jumped on a bus and kept going until I thought I was in the right place. I got off far too late. I ended up walking for about half an hour trying to find The Troubadour on Santa Monica Boulevard. It turns out I'd got off at Canon Drive; two blocks away from Rodeo Drive. I must have looked very out of place. It was getting pretty dark, so I didn't see anyone famous, though the restaurants looked expensive, and the shops even more so.
After asking some Hasidic Jews the best way to get to Santa Monica Blvd., I eventually stumbled upon The Troubadour, where Kylesa were playing, with support from Intronaut, Ides of Gemini, and Pigeonwing. It was a great show, and managed to chat to a few people with similar tastes in music, including the singer from b****** Noise who informed me there was a two-day festival coming up in a few weeks called California Discord. Looking at the lineup, it's going to be rather good. It's also the weekend of my birthday, so I think it'll be a nice way to celebrate.
I was pretty wrecked at this point, and thought it best to try and get home. Ben, a guy I'd met at the show, directed me to a bus stop, which was again, a fairly long walk, but I managed to get the right bus, and got back to my room to discover a fridge outside. I tried my best to keep the noise down whilst dragging it in, but I don't think I succeeded. I now have two fridges in my room, but at least this one works.
I haven't planned anything for tomorrow, but may go and check out a museum or two, and find a few new bars. Who knows...
