Managed to drag myself out of bed for 4am this morning, having had about 4 hours sleep, with the full intention of going to see the Spurs v Liverpool game live at the Fox and Hounds (http://www.thefoxandhounds.com) near Universal City. The difference between this and the last time I tried getting up early to watch the football, as that this time, I wasn't still drunk from the night before and so found it much easier to get up and travel up there.
I missed the kick-off, and arrived just as Modric netted the first. Well, I could hear chants of 'Yid Army!' from outside, presuming that Spurs had just scored. It was a bit odd, as around the other side of the bar, they had some 'Scotch' people watching some game between some 'Scotch' football teams… Whereas there were around 40 Spurs fans constantly chanting throughout the game. It's a similar kind of atmosphere to a World Cup game in a way, where everyone turns out to watch their team play, no matter what time of the day it is. Plus, it's always great to have a proper pint of beer, in a proper English pub, watching proper football (not that silly, stop-start, American 'egg-lob' thing they have here), with great people, and it's made even better when there's a drubbing of Liverpool involved. Hopefully the game next weekend will be a bit later in the afternoon. Anyway, great result!
Got back to my box after a few beers and a decent full English breakfast up ("I'd like more distance between the eggs and the beans. I may want to mix them, but I want that to be my decision. They could maybe use a sausage as a breakwater. But I'm nitpicking. Overall, good effort, 7 on 10.."), and slept until 2, just so that I wasn't tired for the gig I was going to be attending this evening.
In the hours that passed until my lift arrived, I watched 'The Thing' (1982), and caught up on 4 days of blogs, pretending that I'd written them each and every day.
Cody, whom I met through Liam at the Agnostic Front show last Thursday, picked me up early enough before the show to go get some Thai food from this cool 60's rock-themed Thai restaurant on Sunset. The food was great. I think I just had some Pad Thai. Pretty simple, but it was delicious.
Textures were great, so much better than I remember from hearing them a few years back. Started speaking to their manager after their set, who until recently was living in Hampstead, and whose parents are from Maidstone. Small world. We didn't bother watching The Human Abstract as we had no idea what they were like and couldn't be bothered, but Periphery were very good. If only their vocalist wasn't so whiney. It just doesn't fit the music. Got back around half midnight, so need to get some sleep before the hairstyling fun starts tomorrow morning. I can't wait...
