Had yet another long lay in today, but was up and ready by 2 to go and see The Birds and Jaws on the big screen at New Beverly Cinema, as part of a back to back screening of animal attack films. We never managed to actually get there in time to see The Birds, as there was a brief animal encounter of our own which delayed us somewhat. We'd just passed through an intersection when we were confronted by a startled dog off it's leash wandering in the middle of the road. We screamed to a halt narrowly avoiding hitting the thing, when seconds later, there was a sudden thud where some old hispanic guy had driven into the back of us. He pulled out and round us to see if we were ok and then drove off. He actually just drove off. We sat around for almost an hour waiting the cops to turn up so he could take a statement, hopefully meaning Vicki would be able to get her now broken 'trunk' fixed with the insurance.
Once we'd done explaining what had happened, we arrived at the cinema with plenty of time to spare before Jaws started. I'd not seen it in years, and had forgotten just how great a film it is. Everything from John Williams score, to the excellent direction, and with the impeccable acting from trio Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss; I've fallen in love with this film all over again.
