First day of November. You know what that means. Stupid looking facial hair for a month.
School started with sculpting wounds on a flat surface we'd use for creating a tin-sil mould, which we'd then make pros-aide transfers from. With me? Once they were done, we mixed our own tin-sil to pour in. We were informed that touching these chemicals in an uncured state, could cause infertility… which is nice.
Leaving them to dry, we then started mixing our own gelatine. Gelatine smells a bit, so when there's about 16 people all mixing up gelatine at once, it can whiff quite a bit. I made a few gelatine pieces before rushing home to get ready for the show tonight.
*Had a few pre-show beers in the Novel before going to the Wiltern Theate, where I'd just come from. Whilst standing out in the smoking area, I got chatting to a tattooist eager for Mastodon to see his work on his friend (a Mastodon related tattoo), and a few moments later I was standing next to Brann Dailor, Mastodon's drummer. Quite odd to think that years ago at an Underworld show where Mastodon were supporting High on Fire, I had a chat with him then too. He obviously didn't remember this.
Red Fang were great, and I was eager to get down to the front for a bit of a mosh during The Dillinger Escape Plan, but they weren't allowing anyone else in that area due to overcrowding or something. I begged with the security to let me in, and after explaining I study in the same building, some girl who works there grabbed me by the hand and lead me down the front, and got me the right wristband. I couldn't thank her enough. Maybe she liked my accent? No one else does though so maybe not.
Although Dillinger were amazing, I'd have been quite happy for them to carry on playing into Mastodon's set. I'd maybe have preferred some more 'Calculating Infinity' material, but what they did play was excellent. I'm not a fan of Mastodon's later material, which they tended to stick with, but they did it very well and has actually forced me to listen to it more. I quite like it now.
I was pretty hammered by the end of it so went home to bed, via Subway.
*This was all written the tomorrow, as I struggled to recall what happened in between bands.
