I really struggled to wake up this morning, as though I was still attached to the bed. I'm not sure why this only happens on weekdays, and not at the weekend. Perhaps a night in tonight.
The morning kicked off with a demo from Kevin Brennan (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2046212/), who's worked on some of my personal favourite films, on creating a gel filled appliance. I've done this before, but I enjoy it, and where I've not done it for a while, it was great to have another bash at it. I've noticed I'm usually the last person to finish, or the last person to leave the class, but I was certain I'd do better today. Unfortunately, because the class was so huge, and because I'm such a gentleman, I kept letting people go in front to use certain materials and equipment. This was alright, as my final silicone piece came out really well, but a lot of others needed to redo them. "More haste = less speed" as my mother might say.
The afternoon, we got to play around with more chemicals. This is the best thing about creating appliances in my opinion. I was always rubbish at chemistry (probably because I never paid enough attention: Dr Wright was well boring) but this is much more fun. It wasn't necessarily dangerous, as we were just making our own gelatine, but it does get extremely hot when microwaving. I've left it to cure overnight, before we stick it in another mould. I think we're applying them to oursleves/others some time this week, possibly tomorrow.
I'd been told to take my immense amount of stuff home as it was getting in the way. This was fair, as I'd been putting it off for ages. It wasn't easy. I dropped several things when crossing the roads, which is not advisable in Los Angeles, particularly Koreatown. I made it back alive and decided to sort it all out. This ate up most of the evening, but at least it's all organised (ish) now.
I maybe should have made the effort to go out tonight, being that it's Hallowe'en, and especially because it's mental in Hollywood, but I really do need a night in. Besides, I'll be out tomorrow night...
