Today was crunch time, the moment to find out whether we'd get to the Davis Cup final. We only needed to win one of today's two singles.
Before the tennis started, we were treated for the third time this weekend to a performance by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. This time they added an AC/DC number to their set for the Aussie fans and following a request from Pat Cash.
The first match in the reverse singles was Andy Murray v Bernard Tomic.
Murray started brightly, breaking Tomic in the 4th game. However, he suffered his one blip when serving for the set at 5-3. At 6-5, Murray piled on the pressure and broke to take the set.
From then onwards, Murray was always in control, taking the second set 6-3 and breaking twice in the third set to wrap up the match 6-2. Cue ecstatic scenes!
Following the celebrations, it was decided to proceed with the dead rubber, as the first match had been completed quickly. Therefore, we were treated to a bonus best of three set match between Dan Evans and Thanasi Kokkinakis.
I was impressed that most spectators stayed behind for this match. Evans again showed his battling qualities, but ultimately Kokkinakis was too strong and prevailed in straight sets, much to the delight of the Fanatics.
The atmosphere over the whole tie has been amazing, and much credit goes to all the spectators. The Aussie Fanatics are fantastic, while the Stirling Uni Barmy Army performed sterling work leading the home cheering.
In the other semi final, Belgium eventually prevailed over Argentina, meaning they will host the final. I just hope I can obtain a ticket!
So that's it for my little Scottish vacation as tomorrow I drive home. What a great week it's been - lovely views, impressive castles in stunning settings, amazing weather all culminating in a fantastic weekend of Davis Cup tennis.
I'll be embarking upon my travels again very shortly as Mum joins me for a week in Guernsey starting this Saturday. Until then, au revoir.
