Today was more showery, but I managed to dodge most of them.
I started with a short walk along Glen Sannox. Ahead of me was the might of Goat Fell shrouded in mist. In the Glen itself the sun came out. There are a number of small waterfalls along this picturesque Glen, and some ruins that act as a reminder of the mining of the barytes that took place here. These were used in various industrial processes and mining continued in the Glen until after the First World War.
As I passed the bus shelter by the car park, I noticed the unusual seating for a shelter - a couple of comfy dining chairs! With perfect timing, the heavens opened soon after I had got into the car.
Our next stop was the Arran Heritage Museum in Brodick. This fascinating museum is full of exhibits and information regarding island life throughout the centuries.
My final destination of the day was Brod*** Castle and Gardens. Unfortunately, the castle itself is currently closed. However, the grounds are well worth exploring. The views of the bay and Ayrshire coast are lovely. In prime position is the Bavarian Roundhouse, the interior of which is beautifully decorated with pinecones.
Although there has been a fortress on this site since the 5th century, the current castle dates mainly from the mid 19th century when it was extensively remodelled.
Today's driving distance was 46 miles.
