Our original plan for the journey home was thwarted by Alton Towers being closed, so we started the day with a visit to Moose Coffee. This is a Canadian based cafe serving pancakes, waffles etc so I tucked into a breakfast of 2 cheese pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Needless to say, we left the cafe fully stuffed!
As we're both National Trust members we stopped off at Shugborough, and large house and estate near Stafford.
Shugborough Hall is a grade I listed building. The estate was owned by the Bishops of Lichfield until the monasteries were dissolved. In 1624, the estate was purchased by William Anson, an ancestor of the Earls of Lichfield. The estate remained in the family until the death of the 4 the earl on 1960, when it passed onto the National Trust.
The oldest part of the current hall was built in 1693 but it has been extended many times over the century.
After exploring the lovely grounds, we headed back home.
