As has become customary this week, our final full day in Northumberland began overcast but brightened up for the afternoon, and again it was dry!
We started with a short stroll round the corner to gander at Alnwick Castle, which is still the home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. The highlight is a chance to wander through the state rooms which, as you'd expect, are amazing.
Then we revisted Grannies for a lovely lunch, where GS showed how much more mature than me he is by ordering an afternoon tea with a salmon and cream cheese sandwich, cheese scone and pot of tea, while I opted for a ham, cheese and pineapple toastie and hot chocolate with all the trimmings!
A short drive away, we visited Warkworth Castle. This was the home of the Percy family, including The Hotspur, made famous by Shakespeare.
Our last visit was to Brinkburn Priory. After being dissolved by Henry VIII, the Priory Church was preserved for the parish. Behind the church is the shell of a manor house, with enough of the internal decor remaining to give an impression of what it was like in its prime. We then had a game of skittles in the garden, in the sun.
For our final evening meal, we popped round the corner to Carlo's Fish & Chips for pie, battered sausage, haggis and cheesy chips with gravy - lush. Can appreciate why this place is so popular!
