Today dawned dull and drizzley, but it was forecast to clear up so I took my time before leaving.
Eventually I headed to Kildonan where the hills were still shrouded in mist so I stopped in the village for a short walk along the beach and back up to the sparse remains of Kildonan Castle. This is in private hands and it's not possible to get up close to it, but the few remaining bits of the tower can be seen.
By the time I rejoined the Minx the mist had cleared away so we drove a short distance up the road to a viewpoint above Kildonan.
Another short drive brought me to the Eas Mor Falls car park. The walk to the falls was easy but uphill all the way. It was worth it although there hadn't been enough rain to show the falls off at their best.
I extended the walk to Loch Garbad, ignoring the Do Not Pass signs because of logging. I figured they would not be working on a Saturday but even if they were I'd have heard them before seeing them, in which case I wouldn't have proceeded. It was worth proceeding as the loch is in a picturesque setting.
Heading back towards the falls I called into The Library, a small wooden hut full of messages left by visitors. Then it was back to the car park.
It now approaching 3pm it was time to get something to eat and as my next destination was Whiting Bay I headed there to The Coffee Pot where I had a delicious cheese and gammon toastie and Diet Coke. It was almost impossible to choose a desert but in the end I narrowed it down to three! I tucked into a delicious hot apple pie and cream and took away a ring doughnut and flapjack - all homemade.
Leaving the coffee shop I walked up the hill towards the Glenashdale Falls. On route I stopped to look at the remains of an Iron Age fort. The falls are spectacular, consisting of two cascades amounting to a drop of some 140 feet (45 metres). Having reached the falls I treated myself to the doughnut. The walk then continued to the Giant's Graves. These are a couple of cairns that overlook the bay.
Back at the Minx, the weather still being fine we folded the roof away and drove the long way round, stopping at the Co-op in Brod*** where I purchased a 10p sausage roll for tea and a couple of bottles of Coke Zero. Perfect to go with the flapjack.
Today we drove just 50 miles.
*Minus about 490.
