Today marked the end of this particular adventure, but I still managed to pack plenty in before heading for home.
Firstly, Dunnottar Castle was open today, so I popped along for a look. It was well worth it as the setting is spectacular and there are plenty of ruins to explore.
From there I headed to The House of Dun, the home of the Irwin Clan for about 250 years. Here I was given a very intersting tour of the house, including family history. It also gave me the earworm 'Welcome to The House of Dun'.
Then I briefly stopped to see some sculptured Pictish Stones at Aberlemno, then the reamins of Restenneth Priory on the outskirts of Forfar (was always my favourite football team name when watching the classified results as a child - particularly if they;d managed to score 5).
At Tealing there are two historic sights - a Dovecot and an Earth House, which included a cup and ring mark on one of the stones.
Finally, I had a quick look at Claypotts Castle on the outskirts of Dundee. I could only see the outside, which is lovely.
It now being 4.30 at me still being 400 miles from home, I thought it was time to head off. I stopped in Tillicoultry at Fabio's Chippy for a final Haggis Supper.
The only hiccup on the journey home was that the M6 was closed around Stoke, but the diversion was fairly straightfoward.
I finally made it home at 20 minutes past midnight, having covered 598 miles.
The overall mileage for the whole trip was 2484. It was a fascinating and highly enjoyable 20 days.
