As there was only one match of tennis scheduled today, it started an hour later so I had some extra time for sightseeing. Therefore, I walked down to the Clyde and headed west to The Riverside Transport Museum.
I arrived just before they opened at 10, but there was already a crowd waiting to get in - unbeknown to me it was a special day with the emergency services there - police, ambulance and fire, including a display of fire engines through the ages.
The museum itself is free and fascinating - a real hotch potch of all kinds of transport - motors, trains, bikes, motorbikes, trams and even shoes! Outside on the river is an old tall ship called Glenlee. Built in the Port of Glasgow in 1896, she is now the only big Clyde-built sailing ship afloat in UK waters.
The Glenlee started ife as a cargo ship, circumnavigating the globe several times. Following a change of ownership, she was renamed Islamount. After WWI, she was sold to an Italian company and renamed Clarastella and fitted with diesel engines to back up her windpower. Then in 1922 the Spanish Navy bought her and renamed her Galatea. Retired from seagoing in 1959, she became a training vessel. In 1992 she was bought by the Clyde Museum Trust for £40,000 and has since been restored to how she looked for her maiden voyage in 1896.
You can tell you're getting old when you go to a museum and remember seeing a lot of the exhibits in daily life - including a Hillman Imp like one we owned when I was little.
As I had walked in the opposite direction to the Emirates Arena, I took the 10 minute walk to Partick where I boarded the number 90 bus, which went directly to the Arena. Well, when I say directly, I mean I didn't have to change. However, it took a circuitous route north of the city. Nevertheless, it just about got me there in a time to catch the Red Hot Chilli Pipers!
Today was the crucial doubles match. Given the punishing 5 hour match yesterday, I wasn't sure whether Andy Murray would be able to play - luckily he was. Even more surprising was that Juan Martin del Potro was also playing. I was particularly surprised as he may have to play the fifth and deciding rubber tomorrow. Their selections proved what amazing athletes these two outstanding players are - particularly at this stage of the season.
Andy was, of course, partnered with his brother Jamie. Del Potro's partner was the equally talented doubles player Leonardo Mayer. The Murrays got off to a great start, winning the first 5 games on their way to taking the first set 6-1.
At the start of the second set it was the turn of the Argentines, who gained an early break which enabled them to level the match.
Midway through the third set, Andy Murray's serve was broken by the Argentines for a 4-3 lead. However, the Brits broke back immediately and took the next two games to close the set 6-4.
The Brits clinched the tight fourth set, and match, when they broke Mayer to love in the tenth game - cue a huge roar from the arena crowd.
So, this win keeps us hanging on, but there are still choppy waters to negotiate tomorrow. Assuming there are no changes, first up Andy Murray has to beat a rested Guido Pella. Hopefully, Andy has enough wind in his sails for one more tough match this weekend.
If Andy wins, then the tie comes down to the crucial fifth rubber, where Kyle Edmund is scheduled to take on Juan Martin del Potro. On paper, the DelPo is the favourite. However, Edmund has shown he can really turn it on in crucial matches. Will the fact DelPo played today be factor? Will the pressure of not letting slip a 2 rubber lead be crucial. However, it's been hnited that DelPo won't be playing, and Dan Evans may replace Kyle, so who nows what will happen? Time will tell.
I walked round the corner from the arena to catch the number 2 bus, which goes directly to where my hotel is. Well, when I say directly I mean that I didn't have to change and it went a fairly direct route through the city centre. I was really lucky that the bus arrived just as I got to the bus stop! The unlimited FirstDay ticket I used today had cost just £4.50.
After getting off the bus, I popped into the local chip shop for haggis, cheesy chips and gravy - lush.
