After a fantastic Full English breakfast for myself, and pancakes for my Godson, we ventured toward the town of Conwy to explore its massive castle, another piece of the legacy left behind from Edward I. While we were there, the weather was mainly dry with just a light drizzle for a while.
The castle is extensive and there were many towers to climb up. We were again on a quest to find clues that revealed a code which in turn was used to colour in our quest card and reveal a Welsh dragon.
We then made for the island of Angelsey to visit Beaumaris Castle. Yep, you've guessed it, this another Edward I castle - except that it was never completed. Nevertheless, surrounded by a moat that is still filled with water, it makes for a picturesque picture, and is still great fun to explore.
Next was something of a change - Electric Mountain. Situated near Snowdon, this is a hydro-electric power station that has been built into a mountain. The 1 hour 10 minute tour involved us being driven by coach along some of the extensive road network that has been tunnelled throughout the mountain, while our guide explained how it was built and its purpose. It is there simply to supply cover when a surge in demand is expected, as they can get one of their 6 generators fully operational in 5 minutes - a lot quicker than other power stations. So, when it's half time in the World Cup final and you are one of several million who switch on their kettle, this power station is the one that ensures the National Grid can cope. This fascinating tour took us to the main cavern, whic is large enough to house St. Pauls Cathedral.
With my Godson expressing a desire for pizza, we went to Pizza House in Upper Bangor and shared a delicious pepperoni and salami pizza.
