I am spending half term week with my GodSon (GS) in Northumberland, as we explore the history and nature this beautiful county has to offer. We are staying in the town of Alnwick, in a lovely apartment with a fantastic view of the castle. GS's mother travelled up with us and is staying for the weekend before heading off for a well deserved few days of relaxation.
Leaving home after picking up GS from school on Friday, we knew it would be a long and frustrating journey, and so it proved to be. It took over 7 hours so it was gone 10:30 pm when we arrived.
Given how late we were last night, it was a relaxed start to the day today. For lunch we made our way to Grannies Tearoom. I was last here about 6 years ago and remember this place with much affection. It did not let me down as I enjoyed a stunning brie and bacon toastie with a huge helping of salad and coleslaw,
As the sun was out, we opted to explore Alnwick Castle Garden. We spent a good 3 hours wandering around these beautiful gardens, the focal point of which is the stunning cascade, as in the photo.
We then popped into Morrisons to get pizza for our tea before retiring for an early night.
