Wow, after a weekend of somewhat damp weather, Bank Holiday Monday proved to be glorious, so I had to go out and make the most of it. One big problem though. It's the August Bank Holiday - marking the last week of the school holidays and one of the busiest weekends of the year on our roads.
Problem easily solved by going somewhere fairly local and choosing minor A and B roads to get there. Something that the Little Minx (as my MX-5 is called) and I thoroughly enjoyed.
First we went to Witley Court and Gardens - one of my favourite haunts. The Manor House was destroyed by fire and so is just a shell, but the grounds are lovely and there is a stunning fountain - but it's currently undergoing essential repairs.
I then went to Brockhampton Estate. This a a moated 15th century, intact Manor House and it is a fascinating place, as is it's history. It also has extensive grounds with plenty of walks that allowed me to stretch my legs. A good warmup for my forthcoming holiday.
