Today we bade farewell to Northumberland - after treating the car to a wash as it had spent the week sleeping under a bird toilet!
30 mins into our journey we stopped off at a Little Chef for breakfast. While I opted for the classic Olympic Breakfast, GS went for the American Style Breakfast, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
We then joined the A1 traffic heading south, which was heavy for the entire journey, though moving steadily apart from a 15 minute delay due to an accident.
Stopping for a comfort break, we were surprised there was a queue for the services car park. As we only needed a quick trip o the toilet, we swept past the queue to the fuel station only to discover that the toilet there was out of order. So we then had to wander across the Lorry Park and join the toilet queue in the main services. Oh, what fun!
After picking up GS's Mum, were headed to Bolsover Castle, where we all had a great few hours. The innovative multi media guide was very entertaining and GS enjoyed the medieval based games, particularly archery and rolling the hoop. He also loved the playground. Exploring the castle, the highlights were the recently restored riding school and the Little Castle.
It was then time to eat, so we made our way to the Nottingham branch of the Handmade Burger Company, and took full advantage of the various vouchers we'd collected for 2 free burgers and one side. Obviously, we made sure we had the most expensive burgers. We were so full though that none of us wanted dessert. So we headed back to the car to complete the journey home. Thankfully, by now the traffic had died down.
